Diesel Hydraulic Clamshell BucketAnvil Attachments is putting the final touches on the latest addition to their diesel hydraulic line, the Diesel Hydraulic Clamshell Bucket. Anvil’s Diesel Hydraulic Scrap Grapple has been a tremendous success and Anvil is excited by the addition of the Clamshell Bucket to their lineup.

Diesel powered hydraulic attachments are most commonly used in ports for stevedoring operations, as often the stevedoring has to depend on the ship coming to port being equipped with adequate buckets or grapples for unloading or loading the material. A diesel powered attachment solves this problem because the unit is totally self-contained. It is able to attach and run off any crane because the unit does not rely on the ship for hydraulic hoses or electrical power to operate the unit.

Anvil’s latest diesel hydraulic clamshell is set to ship later this month to a stevedoring operation in New Orleans, LA. This model is powered by a 140HP John Deere diesel engine. It features interchangeable bowls so that the stevedore can easily swap out the bowl bottoms depending on the material being moved. The heavy-duty bowl is 6 cubic yards for moving heavy materials up to 225 pounds per cubic foot such as pig iron and ore. The second bowl is 14 cubic yards and features Anvil’s patent pending sealed lip design for moving lighter and finer materials like sand up to 170 pounds per cubic foot. It also has spillways so the bowl auto adjusts to the weight of material handled. The engine on this unit features an external oil cooler, hydraulic oil sensors, low level fuel shutoff and electronic engine monitoring.

Anvil is also in development of a smart phone app which will let the operators and owners monitor vital statistics of the bucket such as RPM’s, temperature, fuel and oil level, tilt, G-forces applied and more. Anvil has a patent pending on this app, which should be ready in the 4th quarter of 2013.

All of Anvil’s diesel hydraulic line is available for purchase or rent. The stevedoring company that is buying the clamshell currently has Anvil’s seven cubic yard Diesel Hydraulic Scrap Grapple on rent.
